Session # 1 - The Power of Prayer - Introduction
The power of prayer, as visualization, is immeasurable –
particularly focused, targeted, concentrated thought on one
specific theme, idea, person or animal. The wonders that can
be accomplished with the mind, through the power of prayer,
are astounding.
Take, for example, the report given by an English Officer
stationed in Tibet during the nineteenth century. The
officer stated in writing that he witnessed a feat of
thought power that was astonishing.
He was walking along a mountain pass when suddenly he heard
voices chanting in the familiar deep drone of Tibetan Monks
of the Gyoto school. There were also cymbals clanging and
horns blaring. As the officer drew closer to the commotion,
what he saw next left him almost breathless.
At once, a large boulder began to levitate and it rose high
in the air at a steady pace, as if held and controlled by an
unseen, gigantic hand. When the boulder reached a height of
what he determined to be a few hundred feet, it was placed
gently on top of the hill next to which the monks were
situated.
This remarkable occurrence repeated itself three times. As
the third boulder was set down next to the other two, the
chanting began to dwindle in volume.
Through the skillful use of the awesome power of prayer, it
appeared that the Monks had been able to reverse – somewhat
– the gravitational polarity of each boulder… at least for a
time.
The officer wondered if this was the mechanism used in the
past to move the great slabs and boulders the Egyptians and
Peruvians used in building the Pyramids and other large
structures. This, of course, is an enigma that has baffled
our greatest modern engineering minds.
That was a case of a handful of people targeting a specific
task to be accomplished and then focusing their collective
thought in a concerted effort to accomplish the task.
No less amazing is a practice that medieval Catholic
Churches employed prior to sending a mission to a new
location. The Deacons, ordained Priests and Monks would
envision the residents of that location receiving them
joyously, with open arms. They would meditate and pray as
such for weeks on end.
When the mission actually departed and arrived at the
location, the leaders and residents of the area would be
strangely accommodating of the mission that had been sent.
The power of prayer, as concentrated, focused, collective,
projected thought, laid the ground work for the mission to
accomplish its purpose of spreading the Catholic gospel.
The Catholic Church was acutely aware of the power of prayer
as collective, concentrated thought, in manipulating and
modifying circumstances to befit their intentions.
I have yet another remarkable instance of thought power for
you. This involves the ability of one person to help another
achieve a desired objective by the sheer power of focused,
directed thought. Here’s what happened.
Early one evening, in November 1998, I received a call from
a dear and close friend, Mary. Mary was doing her best to
explain the painful symptoms she was experiencing in her
stomach. So great was her agony, it was all she could do to
get the words out of her mouth audibly.
This was a familiar scenario but this time there was
something different about the call. Mary’s usual routine was
to call and complain about her agonizing ulcerous condition
and then get my well wishes that all would be okay.
After which she’d hang up and take whatever pills her Doctor
had previously prescriber for her condition. But, on this
occasion Mary wanted my help.
“I can’t go on like this.” Mary sobbed.
These darn pills I take for my ulcer are making me groggy
and irritable. If they didn’t take away most of the pain, I
wouldn’t take them. Oh God. I don’t know what to do.” She
hesitated for a few seconds. “Do you have anything I can
take to get rid of this pain?” She begged.
“Sure. I can put something together for you to coat your
stomach and start healing that ulcer. Will you be there in
an hour or so?” I asked.
“Well, Hank and I have to go to church tonight for service.
We should be back before too late. Can I call you when I get
in?
“Mary, you don’t sound so good. Are you sure you should be
going out tonight?”
“Yeah, I’ll be alright for now.” She sighed. “I’ve got my
medication. It’ll get rid of some of the pain. But I’ll call
you as soon as I get back home. Okay?”
“That’s fine Mary. I’ll be here waiting for your call.”
As the evening approached my bedtime – without a call from
Mary or her Husband - I figured Mary had second thoughts
about my unorthodox approach to medicinal remedies. So, I
decided to try another ploy.
I stayed up until midnight. I knew Mary was usually in bed
by 11:00 every evening, under normal circumstances.
With a mental image of Mary in mind, I sat in a comfortable
chair, steadied my breathing, relaxed my mind and then
called out to her silently... mentally.
I asked Mary to visit me in the living room in which I was
sitting. Mentally I directed her to sit in a chair directly
opposite me in the living room – just as she would if she
were physically visiting.
After concentrating for a minute on getting Mary to sit in
the chair, I began talking to her about her health condition
in general. I wasn’t forcing my thoughts on her in any way.
My goal was to get her to realize the damage she was doing
to her health by her lifestyle and her highly acidic diet.
I explained to her how ulcers form and what she’d need to do
to reverse her painful condition. If she needed my help, I’d
be glad to assist. All she needed to do was ask.
I also recommended a few mental and breathing exercises to
help calm her nerves and to help her body begin the healing
process.
After my talk with Mary, I told her that she would wake up
calm, without pain in her stomach and feeling a sense of
peace. Then I thanked her for taking time to drop by and
visit with me. I went to bed shortly after that.
The next day, late morning, I received a telephone call from
Mary.
“Paul, I’m sorry I didn’t call you last night. Hank and I
got tied up at church. By the time we got home,
oh, about 10:00 or so, I thought it would be too late to
call you.” She said.
“That’s okay, Mary. I assumed you got tied up with something
important. No problem. How are you feeling today?” I asked.
“Pretty good, actually. You know, a funny thing happened
last night. I dreamed I was talking with you somewhere and
it had something to do with me. I can’t remember exactly
what it was about but I was in your living room or somewhere
that seemed familiar. Anyway, I woke up this morning with no
pain at all in my stomach and I haven’t taken any of my
pills all morning.”
“I wonder what we talked about in your dream?” I remarked.
“I don’t know, but, I’m awake now and life goes on. Hey, do
you have anything I can read on any of the natural stuff you
do to help people get well? I thought I’d take a look to see
what you do for people.”
The remainder of that conversation is irrelevant for our
purposes here. What is relevant is that the long range,
thought healing effort I employed on behalf of Mary WORKED.
This was not an isolated incident.
I’ve utilized this same technique over the years to help
Humans and domesticated animals regain their health or to
stimulate the healing process. You can use the same
technique as well.
For example, if someone you know is ill or engaged with a
particularly bad habit such as drug addiction, alcohol abuse
or chain smoking, there's a simple but effective procedure
you can follow to help the person eventually overcome his or
her
problem:
How to conduct a healing prayer session
·
Sit quietly or with low instrumental music playing in the
background.
·
Close your eyes and visualize the person’s face clearly in
mind. If this is difficult see if you can find a photograph
of the person to look at during this exercise.
·
Calm yourself by concentrating on your breathing for a
couple of minutes. Feel your lungs expanding and collapsing
as you breathe slowly with your abdomen.
·
Now think of the person sitting in a chair in the same room
with you. This should take less than a minute. Really
picture the person sitting facing you.
·
If the person has an illness, picture the organ or system
that is malfunctioning. If you don’t know what the body part
looks like, get an anatomy book or go online to find a
picture of that body part when it’s well and healthy. Use
that picture in your mind.
·
Now send brilliant white and yellow light through the
person’s body along the bloodstream until it arrives at and
fills the body part with a healing light.
·
Actually see, in your mind, the body part being completely
well and healthy because of the healing white and yellow
light.
·
Tell the person to start eating better, getting more rest
and to breath more fully from now on. Have the person
promise to you that she or he will begin doing the right
things to regain health.
·
If the person is addicted to a substance, talk with the
person as I did with my friend Mary and tell the person how
much pain, anguish and difficulty he’s bringing to himself
and loved ones and to you by indulging in the bad habit.
·
Tell him to please consider what you’re saying to him.
·
Then ask him to make an effort to clean up his life and
allow wellness and good health to return to him once again.
·
At this point the session is over.
You can do this and I mean do this for anyone or any animal.
I’ve been doing this – utilizing the power of prayer and
concentrated thought - for years and I’m nobody special. I
know you can do this.
And this is the kind of thing I’ll ask you to do with me
when someone posts a story about a sick person, a group of
people or an animal who needs our help. This is the routine
you’ll engage in mentally right after you read a posted
story each week.
And when someone - maybe you - posts a prayer, you’ll take a
few minutes to think deeply about the profound effect the
power of prayer can have on whoever it’s intended for.
You’ll actually see the intended action suggested in the
prayer taking place for whoever is mentioned in the prayer.
This is the real value and power of prayer when undertaken
by a group of like minded people focusing on one desired
end. It can move mountains, or, at least, boulders.
There’s no rocket science to this. It’s easy and enjoyable
to do. I’ve simply taken the time and energy to learn how to
effectively utilize the power of prayer, as directed
thought, to bring about beneficial conditions for others –
especially as regards their mental, emotional and physical
health.
I can’t promise you’ll be able to earn a million bucks this
year by joining my prayer and healing groups. But I
guarantee you’ll be doing a lot of good for others and for
the planet on many levels and you’ll feel good about
yourself… about this wonderful work you’re doing for
others.
You can help me reach out and help heal our planet and our
fellows. This is a great work. It’s something we should all
be doing for one another whenever our minds and hands are
idle. This is an important part of God’s work here on
Earth.
Ever wonder what all of the Tibetan Lamas and other obscure
but highly evolved souls do to pass the time away? When
they’re not engaged in the normal activities and duties of
the day, they spend a great deal of time doing EXACTLY what
we’ll be doing – reaching out to uplift Humanity with
thoughts of loving kindness, peace, tolerance, and cheerful
optimism.
These are some of the busiest people on the planet. And you
can help them in this great work. Every good, well-defined,
directed thought you can send into the ethers adds to the
great force from which Humanity draws for comfort,
encouragement to do what is right and for peace of mind.
Your earnest good wishes for others, through the power of
prayer, and for the planet will have a beneficial effect all
out of proportion to the amount of effort you put into
this.
You don’t have to understand the complete mechanism involved
in this healing process. What you do need is a focused mind,
singleness of purpose, concentrated attention, persistence
and a feeling of compassion for other people.
